My voice deserves to be heard because....

 

there are so many young professionals who are focused on their career. We are nothing like the millennial stereotype that the media portrays us to be.

Instead of keeping what I learned to myself, I used my voice to share what I had learned and empower more young professionals through Forty Magazine.

What does finding your voice mean to you?

After I graduated from college, I struggled to find my way in the professional world. I became passionate about career development and started making changes that led to great growth. Instead of keeping what I learned to myself, I used my voice to share what I had learned and empower more young professionals through Forty Magazine.

Did your upbringing shape who you are today?

Yes. Growing up in Dallas, I've always believed BIG things can happen here. A little over a year into owning Forty Magazine by myself, operating as a soloprenuer , I know BIG things are on the horizon.

Describe your journey? What was your defining moment?

In April 2016, my founding partner and I had a tough conversation about the direction of Forty Magazine. By the end of our talk, I had to make a choice-- manage Forty on my own or let the publication fade away. My defining moment came in June when I finally felt empowered to make a plan, believe in myself, and do Forty on my own. By the end of the year, I released two issues, grew our web traffic, and booked my first career speaking engagement.

Advice to someone in search of finding their voice in the entrepreneurial, influencer and creative space.

Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do. During the first few months on the job, I was told I wasn't a "writer." Statistics told me I wouldn't graduate or find a good-paying job. But I only listen to one voice -- my own-- and that helped me find my creative space.

Forty Magazine is a digital resource for young professionals. We help recent grads and professionals under 40 build their dream career in corporate or entrepreneurship by covering life on and off the clock. My mission with this platform is to help young professionals from campus to corner office.

How will you continue to amplify your voice?

What's next for Forty is continuous growth. Beyond growing in Dallas, I plan on bringing Forty Magazine to more college campuses and cities full of young professionals.
